Across the academic community, you can find me serving on conference committees, helping out on program committees, and conducting peer reviews. I have held several leadership positions for our professional organizations.
For over a decade, I was part of the executive leadership team for the Association of Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group for the Design of Communication (ACM: SIGDOC). During this time, we rebooted the SIG to focus on user experience while supporting the work of junior scholars in our field of technical communication. This work has included chairing the organization, working on annual conferences, co-founding and editing our publication Communication Design Quarterly (CDQ), and participating in our peer review process for proceedings papers. I continue to serve on the editorial board of CDQ. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I look forward to watching us continue to grow.
I am a past member of the leadership steering committee for the award-winning Women in Technical Communication, where we sought to improve the working conditions of and create peer-to-peer mentorship for women in our field. We held special events at conferences, ran workshops, and encourage engagement through our #MentorMonday events on Twitter and Facebook.
